Direct Counsel is partnering with a highly respected law firm to find a Patent Associate or Patent Agent to join its growing Boston-based medical technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with innovative clients across the life sciences and engineering sectors on sophisticated patent prosecution and counseling matters.


What You’ll Do:

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications for medical devices and diagnostics
  • Collaborate with clients to develop patent strategies and protect innovations
  • Manage and prioritize complex patent prosecution dockets
  • Conduct patent landscape analyses and freedom-to-operate (FTO) assessments
  • Advise on patentability, validity, and infringement issues
  • Support IP due diligence for venture capital investments and M&A transactions

What We’re Looking For:

  • 1–4 years of patent prosecution experience (law firm experience required)
  • Registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar required)
  • Strong technical background in biomedical, mechanical, robotics, or electrical/computer engineering (or similar field)
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong client-service mindset
  • Associate candidates must be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar or eligible

Compensation & Perks:

  • $130,000 – $270,000 base salary (depending on experience)
